“Absolutely wonderful, amazing for PMLD children. Very emotional as a parent to see my child so engaged and enjoying his childhood. ”

“From the moment we walked in, we were met with kindness, calm, and acceptance, and most of all, true inclusion. To watch the engagement from my child, who usually doesn’t engage, was nothing short of amazing.”

What We Do

Flip the Switch creates inclusive, joyful spaces where early years disabled children and their grown-ups can explore music, movement, and play together.

We deliver interactive performances and workshops in schools, theatres, and community settings, designed specifically for small groups of up to six children, each accompanied by a parent or carer. This intimate format allows every child to be seen, supported, and fully involved at their own pace.

Our Approach

Each session is carefully designed and led by a team of four specialist artists, creating a rich, responsive environment that encourages connection, creativity, and self-expression.

Our work is centred around five playful concepts:

Bounce · Roll · Stretch · Spin · Float

These ideas provide a gentle, flexible structure that supports children to explore in ways that feel natural and enjoyable to them.

What to Expect

Our sessions are multi-sensory, interactive, and adaptable. We use:

  • Live music

  • Singing and Makaton

  • Rhythm and repetition

  • Sensory props and tactile materials

  • Guided and child-led movement

Everything we do is shaped around the needs of the children in the room. There’s no pressure to participate in a particular way - children are invited to engage however feels right for them.

Who We Work With

We partner with schools, theatres, community spaces, and local organisations to bring our sessions to families who will benefit most.

We’ve previously worked with:

  • Little SENDsations

  • Down’s Syndrome North East

  • Theatre Hullaballoo’s Places to Play

  • West Middlesbrough & Skelton Family Hubs

  • Sunningdale School

  • St Johns CofE Academy

Work With Us

We’re currently looking to connect with charities and organisations across North East England who would like to host a Flip the Switch session.

If you’re interested in collaborating, we’d love to hear from you.

Looking Ahead

We are also developing a CPD programme for artists, educators, and school staff, focused on inclusive creative practice for early years settings. More information on this will be available soon.
